Chippewas 6th in 16-team field; final round Sunday 9 a.m.

MUNCIE, Ind. – Benjamin Shin opened with a 1-under-par 69 and followed with a 3-over 73 for a 2-over 142 total to lead the Central Michigan men's golf team on the opening day of the Earl Yestingmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club.

Shin is tied for 19^th in the 96-player field. He led CMU to a an even-par 280 in the opening round and a 15-over 295 in the second. The Chippewas are sixth in the 16-team field with a 575 total.

The third and final round is scheduled for Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Also for the Chippewas on Saturday, Awesome Burnett shot 74-70 – 144, Dimitri Protopapas shot 67-78 – 145, Édouard Laflamme shot 73-74 – 147, and Philippe Yturralde shot 71-79 – 150. CMU's Edward Beehag, playing as an individual, shot 74-73 – 147.

Burnett is tied for 28^th, Protopapas is tied for 39^th, Laflamme and Beehag are among a group tied for 57^th, and Yturralde is tied for 77^th.

Luke Johnston of host Ball State opened with a 1-over 71 and then posted a 6-under 64 – tying for the low round of the day – and leads the tournament with a 5-under 135 total. Logan Sutto of Butler (68-68 – 136) is one shot back.

Butler opened with an even par 280 and then followed with a 5-under 275 and leads the tournament with a 555 total. Ball State (283-274) is second, two shots back.
