In her three seasons as the Central Michigan field hockey coach, Catherine Ostoich has set the program on a course for consistent improvement and sustained success.
After the cancellation of the 2020 fall season due to COVID-19, Ostoich led the Chippewas to five wins—the most since the 2014 season—while playing an abbreviated schedule in the spring of 2021. Three of those victories came against Mid-American Conference foes and four were captured on the road.
In 2021, midfielder Alice O’Hagan became the first Chippewa to earn First Team All-MAC honors since 2014 after leading CMU in goals, assists and points. O’Hagan earned a spot on the All-MAC Second Team as a freshman in 2019, becoming the first of Ostoich’s Chippewas to earn all-league recognition.
The Chippewas have amassed an impressive list of academic awards in Ostoich’s three seasons, including a combined 43 National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad members, nine Scholar of Distinction honorees and 28 Academic All-MAC selections. CMU has received the NFHCA National Academic Team Award each season under Ostoich.
Ostoich was named to head the program in December 2017, coming to CMU from Indiana, where she served as an assistant coach for the 2017 season.
She was head coach at Missouri State in 2016, and she was an assistant coach at Davidson College in North Carolina in 2014-15.
Ostoich also served as a camp manager for a technical skill camp at World Camp USA at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. As a manager, she worked with budgets and supervised a staff of 24. She also worked at World Camp USA as a coach and referee.
Ostoich was a four-year starter as a back at Richmond and a co-captain her senior season in 2013, when the Spiders were fifth in the nation in shutouts. Twice she was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team. She earned her bachelor's degree with a major in business administration in 2013.
