He helped the Husker offense set school records for fewest turnovers in a season, team season completion percentage, and individual season completion percentage in 2025. The offensive line powered Emmett Johnson to lead the nation in scrimmage yards per game. Johnson earned Big Ten Running Back of the Year and First Team All-American distinction.
Â
In 2024, the line helped two first-year players set freshman records for passing yards, completion percentage, and receptions. In 2023, Nebraska ranked second in the Big Ten in rushing. In his first season in 2022, Coeling worked with an offensive line that nearly achieved a 1,000-yard rusher and 1,000-yard receiver, a rare feat in Nebraska history.
Trey Palmer established a Nebraska single-season receiving record with 1,043 yards in 2022. Anthony Grant delivered five 100-yard rushing performances, totaling 915 yards, the highest by a Husker in four years. The offensive line contributed to two games in 2022 featuring a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard rusher, and a 100-yard receiver. Prior to that season, Nebraska achieved only seven such games in its first 132 years.
Before Nebraska, Coeling led Charleston Southern’s offensive line for three seasons (2019-21), serving as the Buccaneers' assistant head coach in 2020 and 2021. He coached five all-conference offensive linemen during his tenure.
Coeling was a graduate assistant at Notre Dame in 2017 and 2018. He helped lead the Fighting Irish to a 22-4 record over two years. In 2018, he helped Notre Dame finished 12-0 in the regular season and earned a College Football Playoff berth. In 2017, Notre Dame won the Joe Moore Award for best offensive line. The team had 10 NFL draft picks across the two seasons.
Coeling served as a graduate assistant at Miami (Ohio) from 2015-16. In 2016, Miami started 0-6, then turned it around to finish 6-6. They earned an invitation to the St. Petersburg Bowl. In 2016, Collin Buchanan was invited to the NFL Combine and later signed a free agent contract with New Orleans.
Â
A Centerville, Ohio native, Coeling earned dual bachelor’s degrees in business marketing and sports management from Wittenberg in 2014. He subsequently completed two master’s degrees: kinesiology from Miami (Ohio) in 2017 and educational administration from Nebraska in 2024.
Â
Coeling was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Tigers from 2011-14. He was a three-time all-conference selection and a 2013 third-team All-American. He helped Wittenberg to a 37-8 record and four conference championships.
