One of the most-touted post-college athletes in CMU history ... played shortstop for 1957 Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) champion Chippewas ... signed with the New York Yankees and played nine seasons in the major leagues ... named American League "Rookie of the Year" in 1962 ... voted AL's top shortstop at end of '62 season ... played in three World Series for the Yankees, smashing four homers and batting .277 ... Yankees won the 1962 championship ... played in three all-star games ... won a Gold Glove in 1965 as an outfielder for his fielding prowess ... once had three homers in a game against the Chicago White Sox ... retired after the 1970 season, finishing his career with the Detroit Tigers ... had 155 career homers ... lives in Mt.
