Cripe Posts Double-Double in Match Against Omaha

Central Michigan fell to the Omaha 3-0 on the second day of the Cougar Invitational hosted by Washington State.
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Central Michigan Volleyball team fell to Omaha 3-0 on the second day of the Cougar Invitational in Washington. CMU fell 20-25, 18-25 and 23-25 to the Mavericks.
Taylor Cripe recorded her first double-double of the season (10 kills, 10 digs) with a .308 attack percentage and added two service aces on the night. Brytn Lyon recorded 19 assists in the three-set match and the Chippewas tallied six total blocks. Teyhlor Thomas and Lyon each recorded a solo block. Freshman Brenna Storz totaled for three on the evening.
How it happened
The first set was tied 6-6 after the Chippewas found themselves down 4-1 early on. The two teams traded points for a bit, but the Mavericks then went on a 3-0 run, reaching a four-point advantage and forcing a Central Michigan timeout at 11-7 in favor of Omaha.
At the media timeout, CMU trailed 12-15 and Taylor Cripe scored the first point out of the timeout for the Chippewas with her second kill of the night. Omaha then used a 3-0 run to go up 21-16. Central Michigan dropped the first set, 20-25. At the service line, the Chippewas had six errors in the first set.
In the second set, the two teams went back and forth up to the media timeout. At the media, CMU trailed 10-15. The Mavericks called a timeout late in the set after a 3-0 run by the Chippewas. CMU entered that timeout trailing 17-22. Cripe recorded the first ace of the night for the Chippewas as one of the points in that run for CMU. The other were errors by the Mavericks. The Chippewas ultimately dropped the second set 18-25.
Cripe started the third set strong for CMU with her second service ace of the evening. A kill from Cripe at the 6-5 mark gave the Chippewas the lead in the third set. At the media timeout, CMU trailed 12-15 to Omaha. Central Michigan trailed 13-16 but battled back to tie the set at 17 and forced the Mavericks into a timeout. Out of that timeout, Omaha went on a 3-0 run, and Coach Wilson took a timeout after the Chippewas were aced.
The Chippewas found themselves down 22-17 in the closing stretch but battled back to 22-20 forcing another Omaha timeout. A block from Teyhlor Thomas out of the timeout brough CMU within one. With match point on the line and CMU trailing 22-24, freshman Brenna Storz charted a kill and kept the match alive. The Mavericks ended the match with a block, taking the third set 25-23 over the Chippewas.
Central Michigan will take on the host, Washington State, for the final game of the tournament on Sunday afternoon. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. (ET)/11 a.m. (PT).
