TUCSON, AZ--The Central Michigan University gymnastics team (4-2 overall, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) took third place in a meet at the University of Arizona on Friday night at the McKale Center.
UCLA won the meet with a score of 196.300 and was followed by Arizona (192.675), CMU (191.850) and Iowa (190.775).
Sophomore Bethany Couturier took fifth in the all-around with a 38.750. She also tied for fifth in the vault (9.775) and was seventh in thebalance beam (9.750).
Sophomore Sarah Nelson finished third on the bars with a 9.775 while junior Andrea Price tied for fifth on the bars with a 9.750. Senior Nicole Liphardt tied for eighth in the floor exercise (9.775) and freshman Tammy Verrinder tied for 11th with a 9.700).
UCLA dominated the evening with Mohini Bhardwaj leading the way. Bhardwaj won the all-around (39.450), vault (9.875) and bars (9.925). UCLA's Heidi Moneymaker took the balance beam title (9.900) while Arizona's Kiernan Andrews won the floor exercise (9.850).
The Chippewas open the home season on Jan. 22 against Missouri in Rose Arena at 1 p.m.
