Former Central Michigan gymnastics standout Katy Ordway is in her sixth year as an assistant coach with the Central Michigan gymnastics program heading into the 2025 season.
In 2024, Ordway assisted in seeing three Chippewa gymnasts to the NCAA Fayetteville Regionals as Individuals; Luciana Alvarado-Reid (all-around), Elizabeth Cesarone (vault) and Hallie Hornbacher (floor).Â

In 2023, Ordway helped guide the Chippewas to their second straight Mid-American Conference Championship title with a score of 196.525 score, while senior gymnasts Hannah DeMers (all-around) and Taylor Pitchell (floor) advanced to NCAA Regional competition as individuals.
DeMers was named MAC Gymnast of the Year and became the first gymnast in school history to earn four consecutive All-MAC regular season honors. Luciana Alvarado-Reid was named MAC Freshman of the Year.Â
CMU finished the 2023 season ranked 1st in the MAC on floor exercise with a 49.360, which placed the Chippewas 23rd nationally. Additionally, the Chippewas ranked 2nd in the league on vault with a 49.09, 35th nationally.

In 2022, the Chippewas returned to the top of the MAC, winning both MAC Championships and sharing the league regular season title.It was the first time the Chippewas had swept the titles since 2018 and they finished with a flurry, scoring 196.125 or better in five of their final six meets. The 196.275 they posted at the MAC Championships tied for their second-best score of the season.

CMU’s Hannah DeMers earned the MAC Gymnast of the Year Award, Sierra DeMarinis was named the co-MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year, and MacDonald captured her first MAC Coach of the Year Award.

DeMers won the all-around and sophomore Katie Kowalski tied for first on vault to lead the Chippewas at the MAC Championships. DeMers, DeMarinis and Kowalski each earned a spot on the all-tournament team and the trio also qualified for the NCAA Regional. DeMers and DeMarinis each were named to the All-MAC First Team, while Kowalski earned a berth on the second team.

DeMers became the third Chippewa in four years to earn the MAC Gymnast of the Year Award after Denelle Pedrick accomplished the feat in 2019 and then repeated in 2020.

Clements oversees the vault and floor exercise. The Chippewa vaulters finished the 2022 season ranked No. 1 in the MAC with a 49.08 national qualifying score; CMU finished 26th nationally on floor in 2022 with a 49.27 national qualifying score.

In her first season as an assistant, Clements helped lead the Chippewas to a 5-5 dual-meet record including a 3-2 mark in Mid-American Conference duals.

The Chippewas displayed consistent improvement throughout the season, recording a season-best 196.075 score in a victory over rival Western Michigan.

The Chippewas finished the shortened season with a 195.173 average, ranking first among MAC programs and 38th nationally.

As a gymnast at CMU, Clements earned All-America honors in 2018, capping a standout career during which she was an NCAA Regional champion and a Mid-American Conference champion on the balance beam, a three-time All-MAC honoree, a two-time team captain and team Most Valuable Performer.

In 2018, she was nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman Athlete of the Year Award.

Clements served as a volunteer coach with the Chippewas during the 2019 season and as the program’s director of operations shortly after earning her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in journalism in 2018. She also directs the CMU Gym School.
Â
As a student-athlete at CMU, Clements completed an Athletic Director’s Leadership internship, was a member of the Athletic Director’s Table for Leadership Academy, and served on the Athletic Mission Statement Committee and as a mentor in the CHAMP program.

A native of Gainesville, Ga., Clements was a member of the Dean’s List twice during her academic career at CMU and was a three-time National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Scholastic Academic All-American and a three-time member of the Academic All-MAC Team.

She was named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete, received the MAC Medal of Excellence, and was named to the NCAA Emerging Leaders list.
