For some people the most amazing person that they have ever met is a famous athlete or a national leader but for Central Michigan's Casey Laughlin it is his dad.
Casey's father grew up in a family that did not have a lot of money or material goods. He worked hard for everything he had and he ended up a successful business and family man.
"Everyone who knows him will tell you what a great person he is," said Casey about his father. "He is a solid person from top to bottom and was a great role model growing up. He would come to all my games that he was able to come to and he was always supportive of my career".
The Eastern Michigan vs. Central Michigan game in 1998 was one of Casey's favorite moments in his Central Michigan football career. The game was one of the first games he had started in his career and his brother, Pat, was a senior on the Eastern team. The game was extremely close with Central tying up the score with a field goal with only five seconds remaining in regulation. The Chippewas won the game in the first overtime when Central scored a touchdown and then intercepted an Eastern pass to preserve the win.
"It was an unbelievable game, a battle from start to finish," said the 6-2, 220-pound linebacker. "It was a great win for the team and I actually had tears in my eyes after the game. It was also cool to beat my brother in his senior year and have the last word in our little sibling rivalry."
In the little spare time Casey does have, he likes to do things outdoors like hunting and fishing. He also likes to just relax since he spends so much time and energy with football.
Casey has been working on his master's degree after he graduated last spring. He expects that it will take him about one and a half to two years to get his degree and then he would like to go into something that deals with marketing and human relations.
When asked what is the most important thing that football has taught him, Casey talked about dependability and teamwork
"Football has taught me that you need to me dependable and reliable in your work place," Casey remarked. "You need to be on time and work hard or your reputation will be flawed. It has also taught me that it is important to work well with a team because that is how you become successful in business and in life."
It is evident that Casey is a determined young man because of the rash of injuries he's overcome to be an integral member of the Chippewa defense.
