Leigeb Named Football MVP

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University senior defensive back Brian Leigeb (Midland/Dow) was named Most Valuable Player for the 2000 football season in a vote of his teammates.
The award was announced at the team banquet on Monday.
The 6-2, 205-pound Leigeb, who received four awards, set a school record for career tackles with 490 and led the Mid-American Conference (MAC) with 13.4 per game this season. He set the school record for tackles in a game in CMU's last contest at Northern Illinois with 26, 10 solo and 16 assisted.
Leigeb also received the Champion Award and was a co-recipient of the Captains Award and the Kurt Dobronski Award with senior quarterback Pete Shepherd (Mount Pleasant). Leigeb and Shepherd were co-captains this season while the Dobronski Award is voted on by seniors and given to a CMU senior who demonstrates great effort, intensity and appreciation for Chippewa football.
MVP for special teams was senior Scott Naz (Port Huron/Walled Lake Western) while Zach Poff (Mount Pleasant) earned the Scholar Athlete Award. Naz finished with 27 tackles, two interceptions, two pass breakups and a blocked kick. Poff, a 3.37 student in outdoor recreation, has been Central's long snapper for four seasons.
Senior outside linebacker Ralph Sewell (Detroit/Denby) received The Embers Leadership and Motivation Award. He was sixth on the team in tackles with 58.
