Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Brian Leigeb wonUt turn 21 until early October, but there's little doubt that he's the "old man" and a key cog in the secondary for Central Michigan University's football team.
The junior free safety from Midland Dow High will run the show in the defensive backfield for the third straight year when the Chippewas open the 1999 season on Thursday, Sept. 2, against Eastern Illinois. Kickoff in Kelly/Shorts Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
"Brian is our quarterback in the secondary," said head coach Dick Flynn, who enters his sixth season as CMU's head coach. "He started for us as a true freshman and then adapted well to our new style a year ago.
"He combines the mental and physical aspects of the game."
Leigeb, a 6-2, 185-pounder, has led the Chippewas in tackles the past two seasons. He had 93 as a freshman in 1997 and then was in on 129 tackles in 1998.
Sophomores Tedaro France, a second team All-Mid-American conference choice in '98, and Wayne Dudley return as starters at the corners while sophomore Rodrico Epps is ticketed for the roverback slot.
