ADAM NAMED CMU MVP

Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Central Michigan University senior defensive tackle Joe Adam (Howell) was named Most Valuable Player for the 1999 season in a vote of his teammates.
The award was announced at the team banquet on Sunday.
The 6-2, 250-pound Adam finished the season with 62 tackles, 20 of them for losses of 101 yards. He had 10 QB sacks for minus 85 yards.
Adam also shared two other awards -- the Honorary Captains with Eric Flowers (Trenton, N.J./Sr.) and Jake Kemp (Greenville/Sr.). He was also named the Outstanding Defensive Lineman along with Gabe McMasters (Gaylord/Sr.).
Flowers was the other big award winner. He was the recipient of the Kurt Dobronski Award given annually by senior players to another senior who demonstrates great effort, intensity and appreciation for the CMU football program.
Eric was also named the Outstanding Offensive Back and shared the Embers Leadership and Motivation Award with Jerry Stempien (Quincy/Sr.).
Junior Brian Leigeb (Midland) and freshmen Darvin Lewis (Farmington Hills/Renaissance) and Jammarl O'Neal (Riviera Beach, Fla.) were also a multiple winners. Leigeb was named the Outstanding Defensive Back and Most Consistent Defensive Player while Lewis and O'Neal shared Outstanding Rookie. Lewis was the Outstanding Linebacker and O'Neal the Outstanding Receiver.

Scholar Athlete -- Jason Meyer (Paw Paw)
Most Consistent Offensive Player -- Mark Swetz (Mount Pleasant/Sr.)
Specialty Team Player -- Eric Salani (Hancock/Jr.)
Ironman Offense -- Derrick Vickers (Miami, Fla./Fr.)
Ironman Defense -- Josh Skeel (Charlevoix/So.)
