MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan football coach Mike DeBord is looking for a strong finish as the holds its final full week of practices.
The Chippewas held their second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, April 8, in the turf bay of the Indoor Athletic Complex.
"I thought at times we looked sluggish this week," said DeBord. "On Wednesday, our defense looked good while on Saturday I thought that our offense started to pick up a litte bit. We're making good strides, though, and that's what spring ball is all about."
The gridders have practice scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday with another scrimmage set for 10 a.m., on Saturday at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Spring ball will wrap-up for the Chippewas on April 19.
While the depth chart for the Chippewas may have the starters penciled in, DeBord notes that there are still positions open.
"We're still evaluating what we have on the field," DeBord said. "We're not ready to name our second, third and fourth guys yet."
In the final week of spring ball, the evaluation process enters its final stages for DeBord as he looks to fill the rest of his depth chart.
"This week is going to be critical for us as a team." DeBord said. "We need to get better individually and as football players. We need to finish in the classroom, weight room and on the field in order to win."
