MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University head football coach Mike DeBord announced the signing of three more student-athletes to national letters-of-intent for the 2000 season.
Joining the Chippewas in the fall will be tailback Kenan Lawhorne (Miami, Fla./Coral Park), quarterback Jeffrey Perry (Victorville, Cal./Silverado) and cornerback Michael Thomas (Ft. Myers, Fla./Riverdale).
"All three signees are skilled players at positions we've been looking at in this recruiting class," said CMU's first-year mentor. "We concentrated on offensive and defensive linemen when we signed 20 prospects in February. These young men will fit right in as we continue to build our depth."
The new recruits bring the number of signees for the Class of 2000 to 23. DeBord indicated he still had one more scholarship available.
Following is a thumbnail sketch of each recruit:
Kenan Lawhorne - A speedy tailback who earned three letters in football and two in track and basketball at Coral Park High, Kenan rushed for 1,100 yards in 1998 and gained 950 yards in only six games in 1999 ... the 5-11, 185-pounder scored 24 touchdowns in the two seasons and was all-conference and All-Dade County ... runs a 4.45 40 and benches 235 pounds ... prep coach is Mike Fredenburg.

Michael Thomas - A versatile player who also toiled at quarterback for Riverdale High, Michael is a 5-8, 175-pound cornerback who runs a 4.49 40 and benches 285 pounds ... set a school record with 525 all-purpose yards in one game ... earned three letters in football and two in track ... earned All-South Florida honors ... played in Florida's North/South game for state's top 50 players ... prep coach is Kelly Lynch.
