MOUNT PLEASANT--The Central Michigan University softball team (16-8 overall) bounced back from its split with Eastern Michigan University to post a 10-5 win over Michigan State University on Wednesday afternoon at the CMU Softball Complex.
With the win, the Chippewas are now 2-1 on the year against Big Ten rivals. Central split with the University of Michigan last Wednesday.
The Chippewas got on the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Michelle Brander (Jenison/Fr.) had an RBI single while Amy Morrison (Fenton/Jr.) had an RBI double.

The Spartans rallied to score three runs in the fifth inning to make to the score 6-3. Kelly Carr, Andrea Goldsworthy and Stacey Phillips all had RBI for MSU.
Central added one run in the fifth and three in the sixth to give it a 10-3 cushion going into the final inning. Robertshaw had an RBI double in the fifth while Kim Burke (Mount Pleasant/Jr.) had a double that scored a pair and Tina Kinney (Glendale, CA/Sr.) had an RBI single in the sixth.
MSU scored two runs when Stacey Phillips hit a two-run home run with two outs to cut Central's lead to 10-5 but it wasn't enough to catch the Chippewas.
Kinney picked up the win to improve her record to 11-4 on the year. She went the first four innings and gave up just two hits while striking out two.
Wendy Stephens (Mira Loma, CA/So.) pitched next for CMU and gave up three hits and three runs before giving way to Jenni Rasmussen (Saginaw/Fr.) who went the final three innings. She gave up five hits and two runs while striking out two.
