MOUNT PLEASANT--Errors and strong pitching helped the Central Michigan University softball team (21-9 overall, 11-3 Mid-American Conference) to a 6-0 win over Western Michigan University (9-28 overall, 4-11 Mid-American Conference) on Friday afternoon at the CMU Softball Complex.
Western Michigan committed four errors on the day, with three leading directly to Chippewa scores.
The Chippewas scored single runs in the each of the first three innings to take a commanding 3-0 advantage. Becky Manson (Rockford/So.) scored in the first inning on a throwing error by the pitcher on a sacrifice bunt play to get CMU on the scoreboard first.
In the second inning, Hope Robertshaw (LaCrescenta, CA/Jr.) hit a triple and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Amy Morrison (Fenton/Jr.) while Nicole Weston (Grand Ledge/Sr.) reached base on a fielder's choice and later scored on a throwing error by the catcher on a stolen base attempt in the third.
