Softball Beats Notre Dame To Stay Alive In NCAA Regionals

ANN ARBOR--The Central Michigan University softball team stayed alive in NCAA regional action with a 2-1 win over Notre Dame on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Chippewas (33-12 overall) advance to play DePaul on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The loss eliminates the Fighting Irish from the tournament.
CMU took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Hope Robertshaw (LaCrescenta, CA/Jr.) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Becky Manson (Rockford/So.). Amy Morrison (Fenton/Jr.) then singled to put runners on first and third. Morrison stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher while Robertshaw scored the first run of the game. Pinch-hitter Kristen White (Clarendon Hills, IL/Fr.) hit a single to knock in Morrison to give Central a 2-0 advantage.
Notre Dame scored its only run of the game on a home run by Jarrah Myers in the fourth inning to make it 2-1.
Starter Tina Kinney (Glendale, CA/Sr.) and the Chippewa defense kept the Fighting Irish off the scoreboard the last three innings to seal the win.
Kinney gave up six hits and one run while striking out three to improve her record to 24-7 on the year.
Kinney has now tied the Mid-American Conference record for career victories with 77.
Michelle Moschel took the loss for Notre Dame. She pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up three hits and two runs (one earned).
