MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University football coach Mike DeBord likes what he's seen from his kicking game in early fall drills.
Redshirt freshman Brian Brandt (Wausau, Wis./West) will handle the punting chores while there's a battle between junior Paul Savich (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) and sophomore Adam Clyne (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) for place-kicking duties.
Brandt's first collegiate punt will come at Purdue on Sept. 2 when the Chippewas open the season against the Boilermakers. That doesn't bother DeBord, though.
"He's been punting extremely well and is easy to coach," DeBord said. "We put so much pressure on him in practice that I'm confident he can handle things when the games begin."
Senior Eric Salani (Hancock) is the backup punter.
