MOUNT PLEASANT - With plenty of size and experience, the offensive line for Central Michigan University appears to be in good shape for the 2000 football season.
"It's a group that has the ability to be one of the team strengths," said head coach Mike DeBord. "We have to play more as a unit and not as individuals there. We have a lot of work to do before we get to the level we need to be."
The Chippewas return starters at every position but one and have experienced backups as well.
A pair of two-year starters anchor the line in 6-7, 305-pound tackle Matt Brayton (Traverse City) and 6-5, 290-pound center Anders Hill (Hancock).
Sophomore Paul Brieger (Almont), a 6-4, 300-pounder who saw limited action a year ago, will start at the other tackle slot.
Sophomore Kyle Croskey (East Lansing), 6-3 and 300 pounds, returns as a starter at one guard while two experienced seniors will battle for the other guard position - 6-4, 295-pound James Alexander (Detroit/King) and 6-3, 285-pound Kevin Barry (Green Bay, Wis./Sturgeon Bay).
Key reserves up front will be juniors Eric Dumont (St. Clair Shores/South Lake), 6-6 and 295, and Nick Ferguson (Harrison), 6-5 and 290.
