Field Hockey Defeats Southwest Missouri State

MOUNT PLEASANT--Central Michigan goalie Janel Spero (Shoreham, NY/So.) posted her second career shutout in leading the Chippewa field hockey team to a 3-0 win over Southwest Missouri State University on Saturday afternoon at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Spero made one save in CMU's season-opening victory.
Freshman Krystal Yee (Victoria, British Columbia) gave the Chippewas a 1-0 advantage with a goal with 24:17 left in the opening half.
CMU increased its lead to 2-0 with a goal by freshman Katie Coccia (Rochester, NY) with 9:43 left in the first half.
Melissa Lazarevski (Rochester/Jr.) added an insurance goal for the Chippewas with 38 seconds left in the game to make it 3-0. Coccia added an assist on the goal for her third point of the day.
The Chippewas now travel to Ohio State on Aug. 30 for a 3 p.m., matchup.
