If you are a Chippewa fan you may know him as No. 51. If you are a friend, you probably know him as "Butch." And if you are family you likely know him as Kevin.
No matter what, you should get to know Kevin "Butch" Barry before the end of the year. He is the type of person who walks around campus with his head up waiting for the opportunity to say "hi" and smile to friends and strangers he passes by.
Butch chose CMU for the football and IET programs. His teammates have become his best friends over the years and he says he will miss "the misery you go through, but the fun you go through, too."
They have a special bond with each other, especially among the offensive line. With all of the time involved with playing on Central's football team, it is easy to imagine how tight this group molds together and interacts over the years.
After graduation Butch would like to get out of the midwest for a while and discover some of the east and west coasts of the United States. He also mentions an interest in coaching someday, having coached youth flag football teams in the past.
He hopes that his degree in industrial management and supervision with a construction emphasis will provide him with the skills to work in the construction field. The Home Builders Association is a group that Butch is involved with to discuss different building and construction ideas, but he has not been able to spend much time with the group due to his college football requirements.
When asked what he would do with one million dollars because his favorite show is "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," his response is to "move out of Michigan, invest half and then go through my regular life with the other half."
He has a 1977 Ford truck at home in Green Bay, Wis., which was the first of many trucks he has owned. He spent much of his time learning about automobiles with this truck.
Butch claims he does not have any superstitions regarding football or school but says when he dresses for practice or a game he does "everything the same way every time." To him it has always been done that way.
Barry is a hard working athlete with traditional values. A simple preference for a childhood hair style has lead to a long lasting nickname but still he still says "Make sure you put my nickname is Butch because you'll probably start saying Kevin Barry and then people are going to be like `I don't know who Kevin Barry is.'"
Obviously, there are many different ways people know Butch Barry, make sure you try one of them.
