Softball Takes Second At Tourney

ELK RAPIDS -- The Central Michigan University softball team placed second at the Elk Rapids Fall Tournament this past weekend. CMU was 3-1-1 in the tournament, losing to Michigan in the final, 3-1.

Central opened with a 4-0 win over Western Michigan as freshman Kristina Hyllested (Garden Grove, CA) picked up with win tossing a two-hitter. CMU then tied with Michigan State, 4-4. Kim Burke (Mount Pleasant/Sr.) hit a three-run, two-out double to tie the game.

Wendy Stephens (Mira Loma, CA/Jr.) tossed a shutout against Michigan in a 6-0 win. The Chippewas downed Western Michigan again on the second day, this time by a 1-0 count. Amber Puchalski (Corona, CA/Fr.) fired a two-hitter for the win.

CMU then lost in the championship game by a 3-1 score to Michigan. Junior Lindsay Horvath (Kentwood) was two-for-two with CMU's lone RBI.
