MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University head football coach Mike DeBord announced the hiring of Curt Mallory as a new assistant coach.
Mallory, a 1993 graduate of the University of Michigan, has been an assistant coach for the past six seasons at Ball State University. He will replace Willie Martinez as CMU's secondary coach. Martinez has joined the staff at the University of Georgia.
"We are excited to be able to get a coach of Curt's caliber and experience," DeBord said. "He comes from a coaching family and that background brings a lot to our program. His experience in the Mid-American Conference is invaluable when it comes to coaching and recruiting."
Curt is the son of Bill Mallory who was the head coach at Miami, Northern Illinois, Colorado and Indiana. His brothers, Mike and Doug, were on the staff at the University of Maryland last season.
Curt earned three letters as a linebacker at Michigan and was a member of four Big Ten title winners. He was then a student-coach in 1992 for the Wolverines before serving as a graduate assistant for his father in 1993 and '94 at Indiana.
Mallory served as the linebackers coach for five years at Ball State and spent his sixth season in 2000 as the defensive backfield mentor.
He is married to the former Lori Hill, a four-year letterwinner at Ball State in tennis. She was the assistant tennis coach for BSU the past three seasons.
