MOUNT PLEASANT - In response to rumors about joining the Detroit Lions coaching staff, Central Michigan University head football coach Mike DeBord issued the following statement:
"I am flattered and honored to be mentioned as a possible coaching candidate on Coach Gary Moeller's staff with the Lions. Coach Moeller and I have not talked about the position. I view myself as a college football coach and will remain at Central Michigan University where I am very happy."
DeBord has been the Chippewa head coach for one season after serving as an assistant coach for eight years at the University of Michigan. He was the Wolverines' offensive coordinator from 1997-99.
Moeller hired DeBord in 1992 at Michigan as the offensive tackles and tight ends coach.
