Softball Drops Pair Of Games

TAMPA, Fla.--The Central Michigan softball team fell to Michigan State and Temple on Monday afternoon at Tampa.
The Chippewas dropped a 1-0 game to Michigan State and a 4-3 contest to Temple.
The Spartans scored the lone run of the game in the fourth inning when Robyn Golden had an RBI single to score pinch runner Theresa Pusateri.
The Chippewas had their best chance to score in the fourth inning when CMU put runners on second and third with one out. Central put a runner in scoring position in one other inning.
Jenni Rasmussen and Wendy Stephens team up to throw a four-hitter for the Chippewas.
Rasmussen gave up three hits and one run in 4 2/3 innings in taking the loss. Her record falls to 0-3 on the year.
Stephens came on and held MSU to just one hit in the final 1 1/3.
Becky Gray threw a four hitter in picking up the win for the Spartans.
Hope Robertshaw, Karly McCormack, Jen Skuta and Amy Morrison all had hits for CMU.
Against Temple, the Owls jumped to a quick 3-0 lead with three runs in the first inning.
CMU was shutout until getting a run on the board in the sixth inning to make it 3-1. With the bases loaded, Skuta grounded out to score Robertshaw.
Temple added a run in the seventh inning to make it 4-1 but the Chippewas made a run in the bottom of the seventh.
McCormack knocked in a pair with a single to right to make it 4-3 but the Chippewas couldn't get any closer.
Amber Puchalski took the loss to make her record 2-3 on the year. She gave up four hits and one run in seven innings of work. Tina Hyllested started the game and gave up three hits and three runs before giving way to Puchalski in the first inning.
Skuta, Becky Manson, Michelle Brander and McCormack each had two hits to lead the Chippewas.
CMU (4-8) takes on Penn State in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
