Softball Splits Pair At Speedline Invitational

TAMPA, Fla.--Central Michigan split a pair of games at the Speedline Invitational on Friday.
CMU dropped a 5-1 decision to Oklahoma State and beat Illinois-Chicago, 10-0.
In the opening game, Oklahoma State took control early when Lauren Bay hit a grand slam in the third inning.
The Cowgirls added a run in the fourth inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
CMU got on the board with a run in the sixth inning when Kristen White scored on a passed ball.
Wendy Stephens took the loss, giving up five hits and five runs (three earned) in 3 1/3 innings of work.
Bay threw five innings of shutout ball to pick up the win for Oklahoma State.
The Chippewas jumped all over Illinois-Chicago with six runs in the first, two in the second and two in the third.
In the first inning, Jen Skuta had the big blow for CMU with a three-run home run. Hope Robertshaw, Michelle Brander and Amy Morrison each had an RBI .
Karly McCormack smashed a two-run homer in the second inning to give Central an 8-0 lead.
Central added two more runs in the third inning. Kim Burke had an RBI single and Morrison scored on a wild pitch to round out the scoring for CMU.
Amber Puchalski picked up the win for the Chippewas. She held the Flames to just four hits and struck out five to improve her record to 4-4.
The Chippewas wrap up pool play against Florida International on Saturday.
