Softball Sweeps Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO--Central Michigan's bats were out in full force in a doubleheader sweep over Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
The Chippewas shutout the Broncos by a 4-0 count in the opening game and completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in the nightcap.
Strong pitching by Amber Puchalski and timely hitting helped the Chippewas to the win in the opening game.
Central jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Jen Skuta hit a doubled to rightfield that scored a pair to give the Chippewas the upper hand.
Hope Robertshaw extended CMU's lead to 3-0 with a home run to leftfield in the third inning.
CMU rounded out the scoring with a run on a throwing error in the seventh inning.
Puchalski turned in another outstanding outing, holding the Broncos to just one hit on the afternoon. She struck out seven in improving her record to 9-6. Puchalski's season ERA falls to 1.09 while she has recorded 107 strikeouts.
Robertshaw went 2-for-4 to lead the CMU hitting attack.CMU came-from-behind in the nightcap to post the victory.
Western Michigan got on the scoreboard first with a run in the first inning.
The Chippewas tied the score at 1-1 when Robertshaw hit an RBI double off the fence.
Central broke the deadlock with seven runs in the sixth to take control of the game with an 8-1 lead.
The Chippewas scored all of their runs with two outs after two CMU runners were pegged at the plate. Becky Manson doubled to score one and with the bases loaded Robertshaw hit a double down the rightfield line that cleared the bases. The offensive explosion continued with Karly McCormack each driving in a run.
Starter Jenni Rasmussen picked up the win to up her record to 2-4. She gave up three hits and one run in five innings of action.
CMU collected 11 hits in the nightcap. Robertshaw hit 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles to lead the way. Manson had two hits and two RBI and Skuta two hits and an RBI.
The Chippewas (15-15 overall, 5-3 Mid-American Conference) travel back to Kalamazoo for a single game with the Broncos on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
