Northern Illinois Advances With Win Over Bowling Green

MOUNT PLEASANT--A home run by Suzie Rizek gave Northern Illinois a 2-1 win over Bowling Green on Thursday at the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
With the score tied 1-1, Rizek crushed a homer to center in the sixth inning to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage.
Northern Illinois' Courtney Witvliet retired the Falcons in order in the seventh inning to get credit for the save.
The Huskies had held a 1-0 advantage after scoring a run in the opening inning. Samantha Knoll had a RBI single to give NIU the early lead.
Bowling Green got the equalizer in the bottom of the second inning when Libby Voshell had an RBI double to score Angie Domschot.
Neither team could score until Rizek gave the Huskies the lead.
NIU starter Jolene Heller picked up the win. She gave up three hits and one run in five innings of work to raise her record to 3-8 on the year.
The Huskies are 2-0 in the tournament and advance to face the winner of the Kent State-Central Michigan game on Friday at 3 p.m. Bowling Green takes on Ohio on Friday at 10 a.m.
