Golden Flashes Snap Volleyball's Winning Streak

Kent, Ohio--A winning streak ended Monday night in a five-game marathon match between the Central Michigan University volleyball team (8-13, 4-4 Mid-American) and the Kent State Golden Flashes (12-9, 5-4 MAC). The game scores were 25-30, 30-32, 30-27, 30-20, and 8-15.
Both teams came out with fast and powerful offenses and CMU beat KSU in several categories. The Chippewas outblocked KSU, 12-to-eight. CMU scooped up 74 digs to Kent State's 67 and posted a better overall hitting percentage (.198-.193). Kent State nailed 12 service aces but also had 17 service errors. CMU posted six aces and 13 service errors.
CMU lost game one for the first time in six matches, 25-30. Central and Kent State played a tight set until the Golden Flashes went on a four-point run to take the game to 22-28. An ace by KSU sealed the game. CMU posted a .257 hitting percentage (17-8-35) to KSU's .440 mark (14-3-25).
KSU went up two games to zero in an extra-points battle, 32-30. The Chippewas had 21 kills while the Golden Flashes posted 18 kills in the second set.
The Chippewas rallied back to take game three, 30-27. KSU forced game point four times before Liz Passen (Fishers, Ind./Jr.) and Tamara Fant (New Baltimore/Fr.) put up a huge block to take the game.
CMU held the Kent State offense to a .023 hitting percentage (14-13-44). Central had a .182 mark (11-5-33).
Central took charge in game four. There were only four lead changes as the Chippewas held the upperhand in the set. Kendra DeVries (Fremont/Sr.) served four-straight points to take the game to 29-19. The Chippewas took the game, 30-20, on a service error by Kent State.
Again, CMU kept the Golden Flashes under a .100 hitting percentage. Central posted an impressive .297 hitting mark (14-3-37) to KSU's .024 (12-11-42).
Kent State came back with a vengence in game five and held onto a 12-6 lead to force a CMU timeout. KSU smashed a .353 hitting percentage to Central's -.158 and took the match with a score of 15-8.
Setter Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/Jr.) was credited with 52 assists. She tied her career-high with eight kills and posted a season-high .615 hitting percentage. She picked up a double-double with 12 digs. Glombowski needs only 46 assists to move into seventh place in CMU record books for career assists.
Leading CMU's defense tonight was Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind./Fr.). McCrite picked up a match-high 26 digs, one shy of her season-high.
Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.) posted a team-high 14 kills while Fant chipped in 13 kills for a .379 hitting percentage.
Danielle Holt led KSU's offense with a match-high 15 kills and matched it with a team-high 15 digs for a double-double. Two other Golden Flashes added double-digit kill figures. Three other Kent State members picked up double-digit dig figures.
The Chippewas take on Bowling Green and defending MAC champion Northern Illinois on October 25 and 26, respectively. Both matches begin at 7 p.m., in Rose Arena.
