Volleyball Gets Revenge Against Northern Illinois

MOUNT PLEASANT--The fans rallied behind the Central Michigan University volleyball team (9-14, 5-5 Mid-American) to the end of regulation to give it the boost it needed to take down the Northern Illinois Huskies (11-11, 4-6) in five games on Saturday night.
The game scores were 28-30, 30-27, 24-30, 30-23, and 15-10.
The Chippewas started off on a 6-0 run in game one as Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.) nailed four kills in her first four attempts. NIU made a run and tied the game at 13-13. Although CMU posted a better hitting percentage (.292-.226), the Huskies dominated to take game one.
CMU rallied back in game two with 21 kills to NIU's 16.
The Huskies held Central to a .048 hitting percentage (13-11-42) in game three while recording a .256 hitting mark (16-6-39).
Once again, CMU fought back in game four. Lovejoy posted eight of the teams' 20 kills. The Chippewas totaled a .267 hitting percentage (20-8-45) to Northern Illinois' .143 hitting mark (11-5-42).
In game five, the Chippewas pounded nine kills with zero errors to win the match. The Huskies had eight kills but with five errors.
Lovejoy finished the match with a career-high 29 kills and 13 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. She had one block solo and one block assists.
Freshman libero Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind.) picked up a match and season-high 31 digs.
Setter Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/Jr.) was three kills shy of a triple-double with seven kills, 64 assists and 11 digs. She picked up two block solos and now ranks seventh in CMU record books for career assists.
Defensive specialist Jennifer Brink (Muskegon/Sr.) had a good night defensively with a season-high 15 digs.
Leslie Schroder (McComb, Ohio/Sr.) stepped in to replace middle hitter Liz Passen (Fishers, Ind./Jr.) who tore her ACL last night against Bowling Green. Schroder tallied nine kills for a .300 hitting percentage. She grabbed one block solo and one block assist.
Melissa Reynolds (Port Huron/Jr.) and Kendra DeVries (Fremont/Sr.) added 15 and 13 kills in the win, respectively.
CMU recorded a team hitting percentage of .226 while NIU posted a .207 hitting percentage. Both teams had eight aces and seven service reception errors.
Northern Illinois outblocked CMU, 10-to-five and posted more digs than CMU, 92-84.
Tera Lobdell had 18 kills and a tied team-high 21 digs for a double-double. Tenisha Wilkins also had 21 digs and 17 kills.
The Chippewas head to Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, October 30 for a match with the Eagles at 7 p.m.
