Akron Stays Unbeaten In Conference Volleyball

MOUNT PLEASANT--The Central Michigan University volleyball team (4-11, 1-2 Mid-American) lost to Akron in four games on Friday night. The game scores were 30-27, 27-30, 25-30, and 26-30. Akron leads the MAC East with a 12-3, 3-0 record.
Akron did what it does best by holding the Chippewas to a .122 (61-38-188) hitting percentage and putting up big blocks. UA only had a .188 (60-29-165) hitting percentage but posted 17 total team blocks for the match. The Zips lead the conference in opponent hitting percentage.
Tamara Fant (New Baltimore/Fr.) had a stellar night for CMU with her powerful left-handed attack. In game one, Fant had five kills in her last five attempts which included the game-winning kill. She drilled a team-high 17 kills with five errors on 35 attempts for a .343 hitting percentage. Fant also grabbed three block assists.
Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.) picked up a double-double with a career-tying 27 digs and 11 kills. She had two block assists on the night.
Katie Dum (Indianapolis, Ind./Fr.) saw action in three games and set a season-high .385 hitting percentage. She had six kills with one error in 13 attempts.
Setter Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/Jr.) dished out 48 assists and is six assists shy of the 2,000 mark in her career.
Both teams scooped up 70 digs. Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind./Fr.) picked up 18 digs.
Four Zips notched double-digit figures in the kill column as Sandy Lewis led the brigade with a match-high 22 kills. She picked up a double-double by adding 13 digs. Lewis had one block solo and two block assists on the night. Jenn Snyder grabbed a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Snyder also had two block solos and four block assists.
Katie Kuzior and Ashleigh Nugent added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Monica Morlock led the team in blocking with eight block assists.
The Chippewas take on Kent State in Rose Arena on Saturday, October 5 at 7 p.m.
