Volleyball Blows 2-0 Lead

MOUNT PLEASANT--The Central Michigan volleyball team (4-12, 1-3 Mid-American) started to smell a victory when it went up two games to one against Kent State on Saturday night, but the Golden Flashes stold CMU's thunder. The game scores were 30-18, 30-23, 26-30, 30-32, and 12-15.
The Chippewas fell short in only one category to Kent State, service aces. The Golden Flashes kept CMU on its heels with short serves for 11 service aces. CMU had five aces in the match.
Central posted season-highs of 85 kills and a .288 hitting percentage (85-24-212). Kent State had 71 kills with 27 errors in 199 attempts for a .221 hitting percentage.
CMU outblocked KSU, nine to eight, and had 89 digs to Kent State's 88.
Two Chippewas tallied double-doubles while five picked up double-digit dig figures. Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.) nailed a match-high 24 kills and had 16 digs. Kendra DeVries (Fremont/Sr.) claimed the other double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. She also had one block solo and six block assists for a career-high seven total blocks.
Setter Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/Jr.) was credited with 62 assists. She now has 2,056 assists and moved into eighth place in CMU record books with her first six assists of the night. Glombowski totaled eight kills for a .389 hitting percentage and picked up nine digs and six block assists.
Liz Passen (Fishers, Ind./Jr.) smashed a career-high 18 kills for a .351 hitting percentage. Passen totaled two aces, three digs and two block assists in the match.
Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind.) grabbed 21 digs along with two members from Kent State, Anne Butts and Ruth Ladurner-Schnitzer.
KSU's freshman, Danielle Holt, picked away at the CMU defense with a team-high 21 kills. Holt had nine kills as well.
CMU is on the road at Oakland on October 8 at 7 p.m. The team returns to Rose Arena on October 11 and 12 against Toledo and Ohio, respectively. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
