Volleyball Sweeps Non-Conference Opponent

Rochester, Mich.--The Central Michigan volleyball team (5-12, 1-3 Mid-American) used its whole roster to sweep the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in three games in a non-conference match on Tuesday night. The game scores were 30-18, 30-25, and 30-24.
The Golden Grizzlies tried to stay competitive in each game by slowing down the pace, but the Chippewas' hitting unit dominated despite being outblocked by OU, nine to five.
CMU totaled a .295 hitting percentage to OU's .118 mark.
Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.) tallied a match-high 16 kills for a season-high .424 hitting percentage. She picked up 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
Senior Kendra DeVries (Fremont) also posted a season-high in hitting percentage with a .632 mark. DeVries added 14 kills with two errors in 19 attempts. She had one block solo and three block assists.
Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind./Fr.) scooped up a match-high 15 digs.
Setter Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/Jr.) was credited with 49 assists.
Also seeing action for the first time in a while were Jaimeson Whitman (Midland/Fr.), Leslie Schroeder (McComb, Ohio/Sr.) and Katie Kayga (Ortonville/So.). Whitman picked up five assists while Schroder posted two kills and Kayga had four attempts.
Beth Ann Rourk led the Golden Grizzlies' offense with 10 kills, and added 10 digs for a double-double.
Courtney Varterasian also had 10 digs for Oakland.
The Chippewas are at home on Friday against Toledo at 7 p.m., and on Saturday against Ohio at 7 p.m. A ticket to Saturday's Homecoming football game will get you into the volleyball match on Saturday.
