Mixon Named CMU Football MVP

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Senior halfback Robbie Mixon (Detroit/Denby) was named Central Michigan University's Most Valuable Player for the 2002 football season at the annual team banquet here Sunday. The award was voted on by his CMU teammates.
Mixon finished the season with 1,361 yards, seventh best in school history for one year. He set the school and MAC marks with 377 yards in rushing against Eastern Michigan University on November 2.
Senior offensive guard Kyle Croskey (East Lansing) received two awards: the prestigious Kurt Dobronski Award given to a senior who demonstrates great effort, intensity, and appreciation for CMU football; and the Captain Award along with senior Marvin Smith (Wellington, Fla./Suncoast).
Saginaw senior halfback Alan Parks (Buena Vista) received The Embers Leadership and Motivation Award while senior wide receiver Rob Turner (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest) was received the Scholar-Athlete Award. He was a first team Verizon Academic All-American in 2001, and owns a 3.95 GPA.
The Special Teams Award went to junior Dante McKnight (Trenton, N.J./Valley Forge).
Getting Senior Awards were: Jesse Blair, Paul Brieger, Jovan Clarke, Adam Clyne, Croskey, Derek Gorney, Cullen Jenkins, Darvin Lewis, Roderick Means, Mixon, Parks, Matt Reynolds, Eric Schulenburg, Smith, Kyle Tafelski, Darren Tooley, Turner, and Derrick Wallace.
