Central Stamps A 'W' Over Western Michigan In Four Games

MOUNT PLEASANT--For the first time since 1996 the Central Michigan University volleyball team (11-16, 6-7 Mid-American) swept a series against the Western Michigan Broncos (12-14, 6-7 MAC). The Chippewas defeated WMU in four games on Friday night.
A team effort in efficiency produced a .291 hitting percentage on the night while stopping Western's offense at a .140 hitting percentage for the night. CMU totaled over a .300 hitting mark in three of the four games. The Chippewas also held the Broncos to 14 points in game three, the least they've been held to all season.
The game scores were 30-23, 25-30, 30-14 and 30-22.
Although WMU outblocked CMU, six-to-four, the Chippewas smacked down hitting percentages of .302 (18-5-43), .130 (14-8-46), .421 (19-3-38), and .333 (19-3-48).
Senior middle hitter Kendra DeVries (Fremont) set the pace for the offense blasting a season-high .643 hitting percentage. DeVries had a match-high 18 kills with zero errors in 28 attempts. She tallied two block assists.
CMU moved the ball around on offense getting 17 kills from right side hitter Tamara Fant (New Baltimore) and 10 kills from middle hitter Leslie Schroeder (McComb, Ohio/Sr.). Both were season-high figures.
Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.) grabbed her 14th double-double on the year with 12 kills and a match-high 22 digs.
Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind./Fr.) scooped up 18 digs while setter Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/Jr.) dished out 50 assists and had 10 digs and five kills.
For the Broncos, Angie Sillmon and Shaylen Jackson had 10 kills apiece. Amanda Fry picked up a team-high 18 digs while libero Katy Duffy grabbed 17 digs.
The Chippewas take on West division rival Ball State on Saturday in Rose Arena at 7 p.m.
