Jonker Named MAC Softball Coach Of The Year

MOUNT PLEASANT -- For the ninth time in her career, Central Michigan University softball coach Margo Jonker has been tabbed Mid-American Conference "Coach of the Year."
Jonker guided CMU to the MAC regular season title in 2002 and the Chippewas set a conference record with a .958 winning percentage while going 23-1. Central Michigan lost the first game of the conference season but then rattled off 23 straight victories.
CMU's back-to-back titles gives the Chippewas 10 MAC softball championships. Jonker was also named "Coach of the Year" in 1983, '84, '86, '87, '91, '94, '96 and '97.
The Chippewas are 35-14 overall heading into this week's MAC Tournament. CMU is gunning for its fourth straight MAC Tournament title this Thursday through Saturday (May 9-11) at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
