Former Central Michigan University standout Jon McCall helped the Carolina Cobras reach new heights in the Arena Football League this season.
The 11th-seeded Cobras knocked off the defending Arena Bowl champion Grand Rapids Rampage, 72-64, in the opening round of the 2002 AFL Playoffs on Sunday. The victory was the first in team postseason history, and advances the Cobras to the Quarterfinals, two wins away from the Arena Bowl championship.
McCall played in 13 of 14 games for Carolina during the regular season, recording 14 tackles, 11 of which were solo, and snagging a 14-yard touchdown reception.
The offensive/defensive lineman was traded to Carolina in December of 2001 after playing two seasons and winning a 2000 AFL championship with the Orlando Predators.
McCall left CMU as the Chippewas' all-time leader in sacks (22) and tackles for loss (40). He was a first team All-Mid American Conference selection as a senior in 1998.
