MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University volleyball team (10-11, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) came back from a 2-1 defecit and down 10-7 in the fifth game to pick up a key MAC victory over Marshall (13-9, 3-3 MAC) on Saturday evening, 3-2.
Chippewa setter Shaleene Glombowski had a career-match to lead CMU. She notched a career-high 80 assists, had a team-high 5 block assists, and 13 digs.
The Chippewas jumped all over the Thundering Herd in the first game, taking an 8-2 lead. Marshall fought back to tie the match at 20. The two teams battled back and forth before Melissa Reynolds had a kill to end the game with a victory for CMU, 30-26.
Games No. 2 and 3 were both tightly contested ones and both saw the Herd come away victorious. They took the second game 30-25 and the third by a score of 30-28.
In game four, CMU freshman Meghan Moore began to make her presence felt. She notched seven kills on 12 attempts and only had one error.
Much like the first game, the Chippewas grabbed an early lead in game No. 4 and held on for the win. They won the fourth game 30-27.
The deciding game saw the home team fall behind early, 10-7. CMU rattled off three straight points to tie the game at 10. No team took more than a one point lead until the final score. The Chippewas battled off a Marshall match point at 15-14 and won the next three points to get the victory.
Moore finished the match with 21 kills and a career-high .567 hitting percentage.
Melissa Reynolds was one of five Chippewas to notch double digit kills. She had 22 in her first match back from an ankle injury that forced her out of the last two contests.
Emily Lovejoy had double-double with 18 kills and 11 digs. Tamara Fant had 12 kills and Liz Passen had 11 to go along with her five blocks.
Ali McCrite had a match-high 17 digs.
The Thundering Herd were led by Tracey King and Nicole Michal who each had 20 kills.
CMU has now won its last three home matches.
The Chippewas take the week off before returning to action next Saturday, Oct. 25, against Bowling Green in Rose Arena.
