MOUNT PLEASANT -- It's only March but for the Central Michigan University football team, it's time to start preparing for the 2003 campaign.
Staring this Saturday, March 22, at 9:30 a.m., the football team will begin the 2003 season with spring drills.
With only a short time left before summer break, head coach Mike DeBord will use this time to lay a foundation for the coming fall.
"There are three things we need to focus on this spring," noted head coach Mike DeBord. "First, we need to work on consistency in emotion, effort, and everything that makes an athlete a good football player. Second, we need to work on being tough, both mentally and physically. And third, we need to improve our technique on special teams, offense, and defense.
"Those are the three things we will be looking at in each player this spring. Our team also needs to get better at hanging on to the football and getting it back. We need to step up and make big plays, identify the playmakers on offense and the athletes who can prevent big plays on defense."
The NCAA allows 15 practices in the spring season. CMU will practice Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
