Lisa Taube's soccer career started in first grade.
"I've played defense ever since I can remember," said the standout senior for Central Michigan University. "Well, there was one time I played some midfield, but that was before high school."
Taube has dedicated much of her life to her sport.
"I played volleyball my freshman year in high school," she added. "But they wouldn't let the winter athletes workout with the upcoming spring athletes, so I decided to just stick with soccer."
The Brighton High School product was recruited by many schools. Though she chose CMU early on, she was also talking with Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, and Illinois State.
"I chose CMU because it was the first school I saw," she explained. "I really liked the athletic facilities, it had my major, and the size was really nice. Not too big but not too small."
Head coach Tony DiTucci said that he will definitely miss having Taube on the team.
"She has true passion for the game, almost as if she's still a young kid playing, she's always anxious and ready for the game," DiTucci said.
"She's known for her huge grin when we're about to play a big rival, she's just that excited. Lisa is very driven and always ready to train or practice."
Her most memorable moment happened as a freshman when the Chippewas won a MAC Tournament semifinal match after four overtimes.
"That was the longest game of my life," she reflected.
Taube praised the work of Tom Coyne, her club soccer coach for three years, before she came to CMU.
"He took over our team after the head coach left, even though he had so many other things going on," she said. "We beat our rivals to win the state championship."
Her advice to new freshman would be "to start taking classes for your major right away."
Taube is excited to graduate, but won't be so involved with soccer anymore. After graduating with a degree in criminal justice, she's moving onto the police academy.
"I decided to be a cop when some officers came to speak at our school. I also wanted to stay in shape and thought it would be an interesting career," she said. "I don't know, maybe I'll just play some recreational soccer, like pickup games or something."
Her dream job would to someday be a U.S. Marshal.
