MOUNT PLEASANT - Indiana spoiled the opening of Central Michigan University's new field hockey field as the Hoosiers defeated CMU, 2-0.
CMU falls to 6-8 on the season with Indiana improving to 10-6.
The Hoosier first goal came late in the first half on the penalty stoke. Frederique Meeuwen took the stroke, notching the match winner with 1:27 left in the first half. Meeuwen added an insurance goal for Indiana with 7:30 remaining. Her second tally also came on a penalty stoke.
CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank made 11 saves in the match with Indiana keeper making seven saves to earn the shutout.
The Hoosiers out shot CMU, 17-10, and held an eight to five advantage in penalty corners.
The Chippewas host Ball State tomorrow in their second contest of the weekend. The match is set to set at 1 p.m.
