MOUNT PLEASANT -- A balanced Chippewa attack and strong hitting led the Central Michigan University volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Toledo on Saturday night in Rose Arena.
Game scores were 31-29, 30-23 and 31-29.
The Chippewas are now 6-16 overall, 3-8 in the MAC while Toledo drops to 13-9 overall, 3-7 in the MAC.
Three CMU players were in double figures in kills with Kristen Buter and Meghan Moore leading the way with 16 each. Emily Lovejoy was right behind with 14.
Games one and three featured dramatic finishes as both were tied at 29. CMU held a 29-28 lead in game one, but Buter had a hitting error that tied the score. However, she redeemed herself with back-to-back kills to give CMU the game.
In game three, the Chippewas trailed 29-28 but Buter again worked her magic posting two straight kills to give CMU a 30-29 lead and then a Toledo hitting error gave the Chippewas the game and the match.
Buter's kill total was a career high and she also added a pair of block assists. Moore had five block assists and an ace to go along with her 16 kills. Lovejoy posted 10 digs for her fifth-straight double-double and she hit .440 for the match.
CMU hit .271 in the match compared to Toledo's .227 mark. The Chippewas outblocked Toledo, 6-5, and each team had seven aces.
Jaimeson Whitman set the Chippewas to the victory with 46 assists. Ali McCrite tallied 16 digs to lead CMU's defense.
Three Toledo players were in double figures in the kill department. Kelsey Culver, Kate Bean and Rachel Mohler each recorded 12.
