HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall freshman Kelly-Anne Billingy tallied 30 kills to lead the Marshall Thundering Herd to a 3-1 win over Central Michigan University on Friday night in the Henderson Center.
Game scores were 30-25, 26-30, 30-13 and 30-28.
Billingy, the MAC's leader in kills per game, points per game and service aces per game, hit .396 for the match while also notching 10 digs and a pair of block assists. She broke Marshall's single-season kills record in the process as she now has 520 on the year.
The Chippewas did put up 13 team blocks against the Herd but it wasn't enough. Jesse Miller and Melanie Klein each notched seven total blocks and Meghan Moore six. Klein and Moore each had one solo block on the night.
Emily Lovejoy posted 18 kills but her double-double streak came to an end as she only recorded nine digs. Kristen Buter pounded nine kills off the bench and Moore added eight.
Marshall hit .211 compared to CMU's .110 mark and the Herd served up 13 aces and tallied 12 team blocks.
Three of the four games were closely contested but the Chippewas had a -.069 hitting percentage in game three that allowed Marshall to win by a 30-13 margin. The other three games were decided by no more than a five-point margin and the deciding game four was just a two-point Marshall victory.
The Chippewas fall to 6-17 overall and 3-9 in the MAC. CMU plays at Miami on Saturday night in Oxford, Ohio. Marshall improves to 15-9 overall, 6-4 in league play.
