MUNCIE, Ind. - The season came to an unexpected end for the Central Michigan University field hockey team as it was defeated 1-0 by Miami in the quarterfinals of Mid-American Conference tournament.
The Chippewas entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed while Miami was the No. 6 seed. CMU finishes the season 8-11 overall while Miami improves to 7-13 and will face Kent State tomorrow in the tournament semifinals.
The lone goal of the match came with less than five minutes remaining. Courtney Furia scored off a corner from the left side. Taylor Florence assisted on the goal.
The RedHawks out shot CMU, 8-5, while the Chippewas won the penalty corner battle, 7-5. CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank made three saves while Miami keeper Kerri Orr, the 2004 MAC "Co-Player of the Year," made two saves.
