Basketball has had its share of doctors in Dr. James Naismith, "Dr. J" Julius Erving and Darrell "Dr. Dunkenstein" Griffith.
CMU basketball has even had a doctor in former player turned dentist, Dr. James Murray.
Chippewa senior Adam Dentlinger is looking to add Dr. Dentlinger to the list.
The 6-8 forward/center from Arcadia, Iowa actually graduated in December with a bachelor's degree in management information systems. That's quite an accomplishment since he managed to do it in just three and a half years while juggling the roles of a student-athlete.
Dentlinger is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration but he has further educational goals.
"After I work for a few years, I'd like to get my doctorate and teach at the college level," he said.
"My plans depend on what I find when I am done with my master's degree. I'd like to get some job experience before I would teach."
According to Dentlinger, the goal of a management information systems professional is to design computer systems for businesses and maintain them so that information can flow throughout a network.
"The master's degree is helping me become more well-rounded in business," he said. "I'm learning how to manage and deal with people in a business setting. There are a lot more facets to this degree."
Dentlinger says he chose to attend CMU over Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Santa Clara.
"I wasn't recruited much by Iowa teams so I knew I was going to have to go far from home," he said. "I liked the family atmosphere here and the fact that the team hung out together off the court. I knew I was going to need something like that with my family so far away."
His family has played an important role throughout his playing career, even from a distance.
"They have always supported me from day one and been behind me in whatever I've done," Dentlinger said. "It's amazing the support they've given me this year as they will have seen over half our games this season."
As his playing career comes to a close, Adam says he has absolutely no regrets.
"I got my degree, that's the No. 1 thing I came here to do," he said. "I also won two MAC championships in my first three years, so I can't complain."
