Chippewa Gymnast Named MAC Scholar Athlete

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Mid-American Conference honored Central Michigan University gymnast Kara Reighard for the second time this week when she was named female "Scholar Athlete of the Week" on Wednesday afternoon.
Reighard picked up MAC "Gymnast of the Week" on Monday afternoon.
The junior had her best meet of the season last Saturday versus Eastern Michigan where she won the all-around with a season-best score of 39.525.
Reighard finished either first or second in every event and had the top score on the team in every event. Her score of 9.950 on beam tied the school record and earned her first place. She also finished first on the bars with a score of 9.875. She finished second on the floor (9.875) and vault (9.825).
The business major boasts a 3.55 grade point average. She is the first Chippewa female to win the award in the 2003-2004 school year.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
