CMU Gymnast Wins MAC Honor

Central Michigan University gymnast Kara Reighard earned Mid-American Conference "Gymnast of the Week" for her efforts at the Michigan Classic on Friday.

Reighard shares the honor with Northern Illinois' Kristina Campos who won the award for the second time this season.

The Chippewas finished in second place due in part to Reighard's second-place finish in the all-around with a season-best score of 39.350. She only lost to Michigan's Elise Ray, who was a member of the 2000 olympic squad.

Reighard took first on the floor exercise with a near-perfect score of 9.950. It was the second week in -a-row that she finished with a 9.950 and took first on the floor. Kara also took fourth on the beam with a 9.850 and ninth on the bars with a 9.800.

It is the fourth time that Reighard has earned the honor, winning once last season and twice in 2002.

Reighard and the Chippewas return to action on Saturday, Feb. 14, for a dual meet with MAC-foe Eastern Michigan at 4 p.m.
