Softball Splits During First Day of Spring Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Pitcher Amber Puchalski got the Central Michigan University softball team off to a good start on its spring break trip with a 2-0 shutout over Lehigh. But, the Chippewas fell to Creighton, 5-1, in the second game of the day.
Puchalski fanned 14 Lehigh batters and allowed just three hits to improve to 3-2 on the year with a pair of shutouts.
Aimee Smith drove in both runs with a two-run single. Karen Hohs tallied a pair of hits in the game.
Jessica Garvin took the loss against Creighton in the nightcap. She went the distance and allowed eight hits. The Bluejays scored three runs in the top of the first, one in the fourth and one in the fifth.
CMU's lone run came in the sixth when Hohs singled, went to second on a sacrifice, advanced to third on a Smith single and then scored on a Lindsey Calme RBI single.
The Chippewas play a pair of games on Monday facing Providence at 12:30 p.m., and Gardner-Webb at 2:20 p.m.
