MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University softball pitcher Amber Puchalski (Corona, Calif./Canyon Springs HS) has been tabbed the Mid-American Conference "Scholar-Athlete of the Week," her second conference honor this week.
A child development major with a 3.09 cumulative grade-point average, the MAC also named Puchalski the West Division "Pitcher of the Week."
The senior was 4-0 with a 0.36 ERA last week. She took a perfect game into the seventh inning against then East Division-leading Kent State on Thursday and then picked up a win in relief in the nightcap of the doubleheader. The senior notched a pair of wins against Northern Illinois on the weekend. She threw a one-hit shutout against the Huskies on Saturday and also earned the victory on Sunday.
Puchalski's two shutouts last week raised her career mark to 33 which tied the CMU career shutout record held by former All-American Linda Pagett.
She fanned 31 batters and walked four in 19.2 innings while the opponents hit just .119 against her.
The Chippewas have won 10 straight games and play a doubleheader at No. 9-ranked Michigan today at 4 p.m.
