BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A four-match road swing got off to a rough start for the Central Michigan University volleyball team as it fell at Bowling Green on Friday evening, 3-0.
The Chippewas drop to 3-14 on the year and 0-7 in the Mid-American Conference. The victory raises BGSU's record to 11-8 overall, 4-3 in conference play.
The Falcon offense proved to be the deciding factor as they tallied 26 more kills, 64-38, and outhit the Chippewas, .258-.101. Bowling Green also recorded more digs, 85-73, and blocks, 11-6.
Sarah Warner led the way for CMU with her third-straight double-double. She tallied a team-high 11 kills and 10 digs in the contest. Alison Baker added 10 kills and hit a team-high .194.
Ali McCrite led the defense with 22 digs and needs just five more digs to move into third on the MAC career digs list. Courtney Kersten dished out 31 assists and Whitney Evers had a squad-high three blocks.
CMU's offensive woes may have been attributed to the fact that outside hitter Kristin Wiloch missed the match because of an injury. She led the CMU offense with 38 kills in the Chippewas' two matches last weekend.
The Falcon's were led by Kendra Halm with 20 kills and a .485 attacking percentage. Chrissy Gothke tallied 13 kills for BGSU with Ashlei Nofzinger adding 11 more. Gothke also dished out 30 assists and Chelsey Meek guided the defense with 26 digs.
Games one and two were dominated by the Falcon's as they recorded a combined 44 kills and hit .346 in those two frames. In comparison, CMU tallied just 20 kills and hit 0.075 in those games.
The final frame was a much closer affair with 21 ties and 11 lead changes. CMU almost doubled its kill total from the first two games in the third frame with 18 kills only to be outdone by Bowling Green which notched 20 kills in the frame. The Falcons also outhit the Chippewas in game three, .162-.130.
