OXFORD, Ohio - An inconsistent offense continued to plague the Central Michigan University volleyball team as it dropped a 3-0 (30-18, 30-26, 30-28) decision at Miami on Saturday evening.
The Chippewas drop to 3-15 on the year, 0-8 in the Mid-American Conference while Miami improved to 12-7, 5-3 in the MAC.
The Chippewa offense tallied just 36 kills in the three games compared to 51 for the RedHawks. Miami also outhit CMU in the match, .265-.068, and recorded more digs, 42-38, and blocks, 11-7.
Sarah Warner was the lone Chippewa with double-digit kills as she tallied a match-high 10. She also hit a team-high .108 in the contest. Courtney Kersten dished out 28 assists and Ali McCrite led the defense with nine digs.
The RedHawks attack is led by Jenna Staun and Kate Norriw with 10 kills apiece. Megan Clark record 26 assist for Miami and Suzy Wolford had 12 digs.
Miami jumped on CMU early as it outhit the Chippewas in the first game, .424-.023, with 17 kills compared to 11 for the Maroon and Gold. CMU closed the gap in game two but couldn't get the victory as Miami still outhit them, .244-.143, and tallied two more kills, 17-15.
Both offenses struggled in game three as CMU hit just .030 and Miami had a mark of .154. The difference was the RedHawks tallied 17 kills to 10 for CMU.
The Chippewas continue a four-match road swing next weekend with contests at Ball State and Toledo. CMU plays at Ball State on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. EST, and at Toledo on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m.
